Van The Man, the nickname given to him by bandmate and guitarist Robbie Robertson which later stuck with the fans, grew up in a music loving family and has been practicing his trade all his life. In his early teens Morrison was already playing 3 instruments and participated in blues, rock, and jazz bands. He made his start the nitty gritty way by opening for Irish showbands, covering famous hits of the time. His reputation grew by playing with bands like Them, and then beginning his solo career with the breakthrough song “Brown Eyed Girl” under the guidance of Bert Berns. It was easy to see that Van Morrison`s musical career was on the up and up. In 1968 he then signed with Warner Bros and created Astral Weeks which firmly etched his name in the musical history books. Morrison was then highly recognized and appraised for his unique sound which helped influence many artist such as Bruce Springsteen, and Bono to name a few. To this day, Van Morrison is a highly decorated artist with six Grammy awards and one Brit award, and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
