10 Nov Thanksgiving 2018
Thanksgiving is traditional American Holiday celebrated the fourth Thursday of November each year. There are a few conflicts in the stories explaining the origins of Thanksgiving. One theory goes as follows: When the pilgrims arrived to Massachusetts, they were not prepared to survive the harsh New England winters. However, the local Indians helped them plant and harvest new crops and the Pilgrims, to show their appreciation, decided to celebrate a 3 day feast with their Native American friends. Another Theory details that: Thanksgiving was first celebrated after the end of a very long drought. Either way, Thanksgiving has evolved into an important cultural event for American as well as Canadians.
Besides being a day for reflection and appreciation for the things we have, it is also a time of feasting with family and friends as the aroma of Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce fill the air. Who doesn’t remember dreaming the night before of Grandma´s secret stuffing recipe, or the out-of-this-world sweet potato casserole your Aunt makes? Or the anticipation before your favourite football team kicks off? Great memories are made, stories are shared, and overall quality time can be spent with the ones you love.
