14 Oct Latest Update on the Ireland Rugby World Cup Squad
This week from Flaherty’s Irish Bar we’ve good news and bad news for you Ireland rugby fans.
Let’s kick off with the bad news first, as you may have heard after 108 caps and 13 garlanded years, our much loved captain Paul O’Connell’s international career has been called to an end. He will no longer be able to take part in the Rugby World Cup due to the hamstring he tore during Sunday’s World Cup victory over France. It was a bittersweet triumph, due to the fact that as well as O’Connell, another of our players fell out of the World Cup; Peter O’Machony, who has been ruled out due to knee ligament damage.
Schmidt must now think carefully as to who he calls up as replacements because it’s full on rugby time, it’s not a simple case of bringing players over to hold tackle bags in training. The pool games are over which gives no time for the players to get the hang of things. We’ll keep our fingers crossed and we hope you will too!
We know that after that piece of news you need the good news!!! Well the good news is that Ireland has moved up two places in the world rankings jumping ahead of Wales (4th) and South Africa (5th) and is now ranking 3rd after Sunday’s victory over France. Come on Ireland!!! At Flaherty’s Irish Bar we’re excited and cheering on our team at every game, the atmosphere couldn’t get any better! So come down and cheer Ireland on with us! And as always we do encourage you to grab a pint and enjoy the game! We will be waiting for you on Sunday for the Ireland v Argentina match at 14:00!
