Football Super Month

Football Super Month

September really is football super month; quite apart from some really-tasty Premier League top of the table clashes with Spurs vs Liverpool on 15/9 and Liverpool featuring in another tough away game with Chelsea vs Liverpool on 29/9. Biggest surprise to date is Watford going unbeaten into the international break. If Watford manage to hold their nerve over what will seem to them a long international break they’ll be in with a chance to really capture the headlines as they line up against a mis-firing Manchester United on September 15. Arsenal who have yet to hit their stride under their new manager have tricky games against Newcastle and Everton while free scoring Man City come up against Fulham, Cardiff and Brighton. Check out the times and dates of this week’s sporting action. Before all THAT excitement we have the introduction of the UEFA Nations League PLUS the group stages of both UEFA Champions League and Europa League get underway on the 18th and 19th respectively.

UEFA Nations League

The UEFA Nations League is new and replaces the meaningless international friendlies we usually have to stomach during the International break. It is, as its’ name suggests a league complete with a Champion, relegations and promotions to and from League B plus an interesting bonus play-off for a back-door way in to Euro2020 up for grabs. The 6 days of September games get underway on Thursday 6 with recently crowned world champions France against Germany and Wales vs Republic of Ireland. Friday brings us Scotland vs World Cup runners up (and conquerors of England), Belgium. England get their own mouth-watering encounter vs Spain on Saturday which also brings you Portugal vs Italy enough to watch with your mates as you grab a pint, a burger and get into the atmosphere. You can catch all the action from the first ever UEFA Nations League at Flaherty’s Barcelona 6-11 September 2018

UEFA Champions League

Following quickly on UEFA Champions League proper kicks off in style on 18/9 with Spurs away to Inter Milan and Liverpool at home to PSG. Big spenders Juventus, with new signing Ronaldo leading the charge, will be wanting to prise the cup away from Real Madrid following a record 3rd in a row win last season. Bayern Munich will also fancy their chances after Real Madrid lost both Zidane and Ronaldo over the summer and there’s nothing F.C.Barcelona would love more than to be the ones to hoist the cup overhead on June 1 2019 in Real Madrid’s home town. But before that Barcelona will have to conquer Spurs with the Barcelona leg to be played on 11 December, now that’ll be a Flaherty’s night to remember.

This years’ Europa League features some major heavy-weights including AC Milan, Chelsea, Arsenal and Seville who’ve previously won it a record 5 times. Got to fancy the London clubs to have a good run to the final stages with Chelsea favourites to win Europa League for the second time.

All told a feast of football @ Flaherty’s Barcelona all served up with a warm Irish welcome to captivate and charm – see you very soon.
