Best Barcelona Beaches to Visit this Summer
The beautiful city of Barcelona is famous for many things Cuisine, nightlife, art, history, architecture, sport, and of course, its stunning beaches. At Flaherty’s Irish Bar, we’re always looking to help our visitors make the most of their time in Barcelona. Finding the beach that best suits your needs can be tricky, especially during a short stay in the Catalan capital. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly beach, somewhere quiet and secluded, or a beach with a hopping bar scene nearby, Barcelona has something for everyone.
City Beaches in Barcelona
One of the best things about visiting the city of Barcelona is that its beaches are always nearby. Easy-to-access, and with stunning Mediterranean views, you don’t need to wander too far off the beaten track to find a slice of paradise in the Catalan capital.
San Sebastian and San Miquel Beaches
Located in the heart of Barcelona, both the San Sebastian and adjoining San Miquel beaches are famous among visitors and locals alike for their long sandy beach front, adjoining promenade, and spectacular amenities. Boasting a unique panorama of the city, beachgoers can bask in the sun while enjoying a panoramic view of the Barcelona coastline. The beaches are within walking distance of the city centre and other attractions, such as the city aquarium and Barcelona’s iconic La Rambla street. Best of all, if you’ve worked up an appetite after a long day in the sun, Flaherty’s Irish Bar is just a stone’s throw away, making it the ideal location for visitors looking to enjoy the best Irish and international cuisine on offer in Barcelona.
La Barceloneta
Arguably the most famous beach in the city centre, La Barceloneta is steeped in history. Built in the 18th century and connecting the old Barceloneta fishing district with the coastline, it’s famed for its tree-lined promenade and stunning city views. What’s more, if you’re looking to sample some of the city’s famous nightlife at the end of the day, there are a whole host of restaurants, bars, and clubs within walking distance of La Barceloneta.
Best Beach for Families in Barcelona
For those travelling with families and young kids, we recommend taking the train out to Castelldefels Beach. With a range of water sports activities to do and children’s play areas, this beach is certainly worth the 25 minute train journey from the city centre.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a family friendly beach closer to the city centre, perhaps Nova Icària is the place for you. Boasting a wide range of amenities such as lockers, changing rooms, children’s play areas, assisted bathing areas for people with disabilities, and volleyball and other beach games, kids and grown-ups are guaranteed a great time!
Quiet and Secluded Beach Getaway in Barcelona
If you’re looking for somewhere a little less touristy with picturesque scenery, your best bet is to take the train out to Platja de Garraf, a little further out from Castelldefels. Located between Barcelona and the nearby town of Sitges, this beach is smaller and more secluded. With cliffs surrounding its sandy coastline, Platja de Garraf offers a welcome break from the busier city beaches.
