What is the Six Nations Competition?

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this legendary competition, the Guinness Six Nations is an annual rugby tournament that takes place between February and April and features Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, France, and Italy. Originally, the competition only included the home nations and Ireland, but was later expanded to include France in 1910, while Italy got in on the action much later in 2000. The championship goes to the team with the most points at the end of the tournament, but the most coveted prize of all is what’s known as the Grand Slam, when a nation wins all its matches, thus completing a clean sweep in the tournament. As it stands, Ireland are the champions, having won their fourth Grand Slam in 2023. However, it’s England that holds the record with 13.

When does Six Nations 2024 start?

The Six Nations 2024 kicks off with a mouthwatering clash between Ireland, who won the Six Nations in 2023, and France, with both teams likely hoping to put their respective poor showings in the World Cup 2023 firmly behind them. The fixture takes place on Friday, February 2nd, in the Orange Velodrome in Marseille at 8 p.m. CET.

Round 1 also sees Italy host England and Wales take on Scotland, both being played on Saturday, the 3rd. The deciding fixtures will all take place on Saturday, March 16th, with France hosting England and Italy taking on the Welsh. Not to mention, Ireland will have the chance to once again win the slam in Dublin. Given that St. Patrick’s Day falls the very next day, perhaps the Irish will benefit from a little rub of the green!

How to Watch Six Nations 2024 in Spain

Six Nations 2024: Who Will Take Home the Spoils?

This year it’s as difficult to predict as ever, with defending champions Ireland perhaps being favorites to repeat the feat in 2024. However, after a disappointing quarter final exit at the hands of New Zealand in the World Cup, it remains to be seen whether the boys in green can bounce back. As always, England, Wales, and France will see themselves as strong contenders, while Scotland and Italy are more than capable of pulling off upsets on their day, which means the tournament should deliver some scintillating fixtures and its usual batch of surprise results.
