What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is perhaps the most important holiday on the American Calendar. Its origins go all the way back to the first pilgrims who braved the Atlantic on the Mayflower to reach the Americas in order to start a new life. Surviving those first few winters was tough, but with will and ingenuity as well as help from Native tribes, they managed to pull through, hence the desire to give thanks for all their blessings. Nowadays, this celebration has become an institution in the US, arguably even more important than Christmas, and is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, typically with a turkey feast accompanied by stuffing, seasonal vegetables and a pumpkin or pecan pie to top it off.
